What's That Sound?

OHDPBBlog

When you push the button, you expect your garage door to open (or close) gracefully. And when it doesn't, something's wrong.

We've put together a highly technical list of bangs, booms, poops, and eeeeeeks you might hear along with an idea of what those sounds might indicate so that when you call for help, you can sound like you know a little something about garage doors without putting on the vocal performance of a lifetime ("It sounded something like this...").

Here are the most common noises and what they might mean.

Squealing

Squealing is a good indication that your hinges need to be replaced, and although you can replace some hinges yourself, some are connected to important cables and should be handled by a professional. If you suspect your hinges need replacing, give us a call.

Grinding

Grinding and groaning is usually an indication of a misalignment somewhere, and the misalignment is usually the result of fasteners that have loosened or damaged panels (has anyone backed into the garage door lately?).

Rattling

Rattling means something is loose somewhere: either the brackets mounted to the ceiling of the garage, nuts and bolts throughout, or the garage door tracks. You can try to locate any loose nuts or bolt and gently tighten, but if that doesn't work we can find the culprit and take care of it.

Banging

If your garage door is dropping hard enough and fast enough to alert the neighbors, you could be dealing with a couple of common problems: a worn weather strip or faulty springs. Keep in mind that an abrupt drop to the ground can cause safety issues and get this problem checked out as soon as possible.

We hope this guide to the blood-curdling noises your garage door makes helps you solve problems and get help next time you need it. For the latter, call us at Overhead Door Permian Basin(TM) today - we love to diagnose and treat squeaky, screechy, bangy, clangy doors.

Spring Cleaning: What About The Garage?

Overhead Door Permian Basin Spring Cleaning the garage

The garage is a part of the home that can often be neglected during winter. Whether or not you actually use your garage to store your car, you are likely using it as a home for other things, such as bicycles, that are only pulled out in summer. The garage is also often forgotten when spring cleaning rolls around. Here are some things to consider:

1. Ideally, you want to move everything out onto the driveway. Choose a day when no rain is forecast and just pull everything out of the garage.

2. Clean, clean, clean. Run the hose into the garage, get a scrubbing brush, and tackle the inevitable oily and grimy spots. Sweep the dust out of the corners.

3. Check the garage door. If you haven't used your garage all winter, it may be stiff or sticky. Make sure it opens and closes smoothly - if it doesn't, then you may want to get it serviced. Contact us today to get that scheduled!

4. Sort through the clutter. You should have several categories of stuff:

  • Stuff that doesn't belong in the garage. Especially if you use the garage entrance as a back door, clothes and shoes can wander into the garage and need to be chased back into the house.
  • Trash. This includes any items that are broken beyond repair, expired items, etc.
  • Hazardous waste. Make a separate box for anything considered hazardous waste, such as some auto maintenance products, so it can be disposed of properly.
  • Recycling. Papers, etc.
  • Things you haven't used in several years - these can be given away. If you think something is repairable but don't want to repair it you may be able to find a home for it.
  • Tools and equipment.
  • Stuff you know you want to store in the garage.

4. Take that last category and store it properly. Use bins or shelves to keep everything organized. If you don't have enough shelves then consider getting more - or whether you are keeping stuff you don't need.

5. Repair or replace your garage doors to give the ultimate curb appeal for the summer! Overhead Door of the Permian Basin™ is able to do both.

The idea is to end up with a clean, organized garage in which you have more than enough room to get in and out of your car.

Happy Spring Cleaning!

What do you think of when you think of the word "original?" By definition, it's defined as "something serving as a model or basis for imitations or copies." At Overhead Door of the Permian Basin, we go by the book - because we define original. We're going to explain why.

Why We Define Original

We Invented the Garage Door

In 1921, C.G. Johnson created an upwards swinging garage door. In 1926, he perfected it by making it electronic. Mr. Johnson is not only the inventor of the modern garage door - he's also the founder of Overhead Door. When we say we're the original, we're not lying. Our roots go back to the very beginning of this technology. Which of our competitors can say the same?

Sure, we've got competitors - but there's only one original. Before you decide on a garage door company for repairs or sales, remember that we set the standard when it comes to excellence. Our service technicians are required to undergo extensive training for your safety and security. Our products are rigorously tested to ensure they meet our customer's needs. Our design team continues to create doors that make people say, "Wow!" There's only one Overhead Door.

When the time comes to repair or replace your next garage door, don't hesitate to call Overhead Door - because we define original. Our service, selection, style, and security are unparalleled.
