What Kind Of Material?

Overhead Door of Permian Basin offers its customers a wide variety of styles and materials. However, it's important to have a good idea of the type of garage door. Our options include wood, aluminum, glass, steel, vinyl, or fiberglass. Each of these materials is durable, but your needs are what will determine the best fit. Ask your Overhead Door technician about his or her recommendations.

Which Safety Features?

Part of Overhead Door's selection options includes several safety implementations. These include wind-load and fire-safe doors for your added protection. Wind-load doors provide added durability for wild West Texas wind storms. You should also make sure the new door works with the appropriate detector sensors to prevent injuries.

Any Extras?

carriagehouse-garage-door-306.jpgGone are the days of hand-pulled garage doors. Technology is a wonderful thing - for garage doors, too! Consider adding a wireless entry pad for your new garage door for easy entry. If you're big on using apps, consider finding a unit that is compatible with OHD Anywhere. Our easy to use app tracks when your door is opened, whether manually or with the opener. You're also able to open it remotely, no matter where you are.

Which Style?

The look of your garage door can vary, depending on your tastes. Carriage-style doors as a look of quaintness to your home, but work just like modern doors. Many people automatically assume that the most profitable upgrade you can make to your home is to update bathrooms and kitchens. However, according to a recent report, new garage doors help you to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to home improvement.

New Garage Doors Add Value in More Ways Than One

Practical

Improving your home with garage doors may not be at the top of your to-do list, but it's a sound and practical investment. For the amount of money it costs to replace them, your garage doors protect your home from intruders and the elements. Granite countertops in the guest bathroom can't offer that.

Stylish

Financially Sound

According to Remodeling Magazine's 2017 Cost vs. Value report, installing a mid-range or upscale garage door has a great return on investment. Their comparison approach breaks down the cost of major home renovations and provides use and return statistics on each. Dollar for dollar, new garage doors are a relatively inexpensive home upgrade that not only gets quite a bit of use - it also provides a significant return on investment.

Consider installing new garage doors to make a big impact on your home's exterior appeal for significantly less than what it costs for other improvement projects. Garage Doors, Reality Vs. Expectation

Expectation #1: I Don't Have To Maintain My Garage Doors After They're Installed.

For the DIY'ers, read our blog on maintenance tips. Otherwise, just give us a call. We provide service calls!

Expectation #2: Garage Doors Are Boring.

Reality: Again, this is another falsehood. Garage doors can make a serious statement. They also come in various materials, from aluminum to glass, and in a variety of colors. Interested in seeing what a new garage can do for your home? Check out our design center to get an idea!

When you figure out your return on investment, you're looking at a small amount over the years. Our selection provides high quality doors in various price ranges.

Expectation #5: Garage Doors Just Keep People Out Of My Property.

Reality: Garage doors do WAY more than that. If you read our blog on inclement weather, you know that your garage doors provide a level of safety for your home or business. High winds, tree branches, and debris can cause a significant safety hazard. High quality overhead doors can prevent that.

Carriage House Model 306

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Thu, Mar 31, 2016 @ 12:20 PM

Last week, we discussed the Model 305 in the Carriage House Collection. It provides a modern twist on the classic look homeowners desire. Another door that was introduced last June is the Model 306.

Model 306 is a more progressive look, with a modified design that features wide middle panels and narrow panels toward the sides for a more progressive look. The homeowner can further customize their door by choosing from the many paint and stain options, window styles and decorative hardware. The 7 foot doors provide a larger 3 section design which makes a great visual impact when selecting the window option for the top section; also allowing for light infiltration into the garage space.

Tips To Turn Your Garage Into A Man Cave

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Thu, Jun 04, 2015 @ 11:30 AM

If you want to do more than just park your vehicle or store junk in your garage, then we have the solution for you! With Father’s Day just around the corner, moms and kids are thinking about what to get that special man in their lives. What better gift than a MAN CAVE? So many men out there dream about their man cave and having “the boys” over for some football parties, or even just to hang out and have a few drinks to relax from a long hard week. Some of you may have already started the process, but got stuck on a thing called “life” and just haven’t got around to finishing the man cave. Some haven’t even started at all, but have every vision in their head of what they want the man cave to look like. Well, we are here to help you and want that invitation to that awesome football party this season!

Cleaning

First off, you will need to get the entire garage organized and cleaned out. Maybe this is the perfect time for that spring cleaning you were supposed to do a few weeks ago, or even that garage sale that you’ve been talking about for a year now. Whatever it may be, you need to be able use as much garage space as you can. Turning your garage into a man cave will keep mom happy along the way with a clean garage. So, put those bikes on a hook, those tools in the toolbox, and those boxes to the garage sale pile and get that garage cleaned.

Insulation

Next would be insulation. Now, you want the man cave to be a place where you can enjoy sports all year around, right? Having insulation helps keep you warm in the winter and cooler in the summer! One way to save money is by installing the garage door insulation yourself. You will need the walls, floors, ceilings, and garage door insulated. Garage insulation is expected to be on the lighter side of things, which is great! So, don’t worry about all your money going to that.

Lighting

The next helpful tip to turn your garage into a man cave would have to be the lights. You wouldn’t want to spend all this time and money on your man cave and not be able to show ALL of it off. You want to make sure your lights go with your style. Another little tip: If you have an attached garage it might be a bit easier to install your lights yourself. If you have a detached garage, it might get a little bit tricky, and calling the electrician might be the best choice.

Flooring

Let’s face it, garage floors were not meant to be comfortable. In fact, they are very cold/hot at times. Adding wood floors to your garage could give you “that look” that your man cave is missing. Plus, it gives off a more welcoming vibe, which will make your guests want to return and you holding the title for best man cave on the block!

We have just touched base on the fundamentals of turning your garage into a man cave, so subscribe to our blog and stay tuned next week when we put the icing on the cake with painting and decorating. You are on your way to having your dream man cave!

I’m Going On Vacation: Is My Home Protected?

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Tue, May 12, 2015 @ 02:48 PM

Summer is coming and what family doesn’t want to take a trip somewhere? Well, like so many others, you want your home to be in the same condition as when you left it. Break-ins are a very common crime these days, sad to say, but there are ways to protect your home while you are away. So instead of wondering, “Is my home protected?” you can enjoy your vacation! Here are some helpful tips for garage security.

garage_burg

Who Has My Keypad Code?

First off, you should never give your code out to anyone that you do not trust. If your house is being built and the contractor has the code to your garage, he may give it to another one of his employees. Now there are 2 people (you have no idea who they are, where they live, or what they do outside of work) who have access to your home. Not that those people are not good people, you just wouldn’t want to trust your most precious things in life with JUST anyone. One helpful tip from us is to change your code as soon as you move into your home!  (Find out how to change your code by clicking the link at the bottom.)

Change Your Code.

Another helpful tip that goes along with your code is changing your code every 6 months. This not only protects your home from burglaries, but it can also keep anyone who has your code (and don’t want in your home) OUT. Some situations come up where that is they only option that you have… to give someone your garage code. But, it is a safety precaution to change your code every 6 months.

Bring Your Opener Inside!

Something else to consider would be taking your garage door opener inside! If the vehicle that you leave at home while you are on your vacation has your garage door opener on your visor, take it inside. If you have someone trying to break into your car, they might be smart enough to see your opener and then have access to your home. You can never be too safe when it comes to your home. Following these easy steps can keep you and your family protected.

Click here for the steps you can take to change your code. You always want your home to be your safe place, make sure it stays that way!

Choosing A Garage Door: 5 Questions You Should Ask Yourself

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Tue, Apr 28, 2015 @ 12:06 PM

When a homeowner, new or old, is trying to decide on what they want their garage door to look like a lot of questions come into play. Here are some topics you should look for when choosing a garage door.

choosing

1) What Made You Want A New Garage Door?

This topic is very broad as well. There could be many reasons why choosing a garage door is just the thing your house needs. You’re tired of the freezing cold temperatures, the garage door is always getting stuck, or you’re personally just tired of the plain look of your door. If these thoughts have crossed your mind, then you are on the track to choosing a new garage door.

2) Is The Appearance Of Your Garage Really Important To You?

When you are choosing your garage door, appearance needs to be at the top of your list. Let’s say you are in the seller’s market and want to make a few updates on the house to get it sold. Studies show that the ROI on a $1000 investment is 84% after replacing your garage door. Choosing a door with an attractive design, or just the right color can make that investment one of the best choices you’ve ever made. Appearance is a broad topic when it comes to garage doors. There’s the design of the door, color, what doors are on the market, and even how many garage doors you should have. This brings us to our next topic.

3) What Types Of Doors Are Available?

When it comes to shopping for a new garage door there are 3 categories: wood, metal, and fully-glazed aluminum. Now, how you choose to design it and put your own personal touch on it, is totally up to you! What type of home you have also factors into this decision. If you want the fully-glazed aluminum door, then those are used primarily on modern or contemporary-style homes. These are also a little bit more expensive due to the size of the large windows. Metal doors can be uninsulated or insulated and of varying thickness. The best feature about a metal door is that they require no maintenance, as they’re manufactured with fire-glazed paint. If cost is one of your main concerns, then the uninsulated door is the most economical. If insulation and weather-tightness are important to you, consider a 1¾” door insulated with polyurethane foam.  A wood door is going to be your least expensive purchase, but will need the most maintenance. This type of door is more appealing due to its natural and traditional look, but requires more attention to protect it from the elements. Of course there are other materials such as, PVC doors and fiber glass doors, but have flaws to both of them.

4) How Should I Prioritize My Selection?

There are tons of factors that fall into this selection but here are 3 categories to break it up for you.

  • The Budget: Having this ahead of time can always help you while choosing a garage door. Most single doors cost less than $1000.
  • How the garage door works: You will need to know the functionality of the door, strength, durability, security, insulation, and weather-tightness, ease of maintenance, product and installation guarantees.
  • The door design: Does the door go with the style of your home?

If you factor in these 3 topics while choosing a garage door, then your experience should go smoothly.

5) What Plans Do You Have?

If you have everything planned out and your budget ready to go, then your last question you should ask yourself is, “what do I plan on using my garage for?”  Would you be using it daily? Just to park your car? Is your garage insulated or not? Is it a renovation or a new construction? Will you be doing more activities in it? These are just a few questions you should cover during your process of choosing a garage door.

Of you don’t want to spend time watching the video here’s how it works: The Today Show sent one of their employees to a home where the family had volunteered to fake a broken garage door. An expert was sent in to simply unscrew the sensor to enable the garage door from working. “Experts” from a multitude of companies were then called. They proceeded to diagnose the problem from a simple fix and a minimal service charge to an extravagant $600 repair. One even relieved himself in their lawn!

So what can you learn from this experience? Always make sure to call Overhead Door of course. In other words make sure to do your research. Check for reviews and ratings.
