Celebrating the Fourth of July is a summertime highlight. Whether you're on the lake, shooting fireworks, or just enjoying a backyard barbecue, July 4th is a fun time for friends and family! However, the 4th can also bring various hazards. Be sure to stay safe with our 4th of July safety tips!4th_of_July.jpg

Tip 1

Keep A Fire Extinguisher Handy-Always have a fire extinguisher available in case of emergency (garage, kitchen, car, etc.) Not only should it be available, but you should also be familiar with how to use it. If they are old enough, tell your children where the extinguisher is located and when/how to use it.

Tip 2

Protect From The Sun-If you are spending this Fourth of July outdoors, be sure to lather up with sunscreen! Look for a sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF level of at least 30. You should apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours. Consider wearing hats/caps to protect areas like the scalp, neck, and ears.

Tip 3

Enjoy From A Distance-When shooting fireworks, be sure viewers stay a safe distance away. The best way to do this is to rope off a section of the yard where viewers must stay behind the rope.

Tip 4

Ear Protection-Especially for young children, it is important to protect their ears during a loud firework display. You can use a variety of different methods to do this, anything from winter earmuffs, to electronic earmuffs (found in the gun safety section of sports stores), or even cotton balls! Anything that will muffle the noise of the fireworks will help to protect your ears.

Any way you choose to celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful, safe, Fourth of July spent with friends and family!
