Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Thu, Sep 29, 2016 @ 06:12 PM

Fall is officially here...pretty soon, the air will be cooler and the leaves will begin to change. Is your home ready for the occassion? Check out how to make your home festive for fall!

Sweet Succulents

Fill a round or oval container with potting soil. Plant a mix of succulents toward the center of the bowl, and nestle small oranges and white pumpkins around the edge. Add seasonal vegetables (kale, radishes, and eggplants) and use bundles of fresh herbs (rosemary and sage) to fill in any remaining gaps. Surround with more pumpkins and succulents.

Dress The Door

First, purchase a grapevine wreath. Pick an odd number of white mini pumpkins. Attach the pumpkins to florist picks, and work the picks into the wreath. Secure pumpkins to the
wreath with wire. Using additional florist picks, attach seasonal greenery and fill in the spaces between pumpkins. Add an assortment of bright fall leaves picks and wire for a colorful finish.

Transform Your Table

Add some fall festivity to your table! Pick a few branches of colorful fall leaves and arrange in a tall, glass vase. For variety, gather an array of seasonal gourds in a mix of colors, sizes, and textures. Stack flat gourds of graduated sizes, and top with a large glass cloche (available at crafts stores or online). Fill another smaller glass cloche with bleached pinecones, and invert. Place small gourds around the larger items, and scatter bright fall leaves along the table.

Mantel Decor

Begin by wrapping twine several times around votive holders and colorful fall leaves and secure with a knot. Top the votive holders with varying numbers of small white pumpkins to construct different heights. Gather an assortment of colorful fall leaves, and use wire to fasten them to a length of rope to dazzle your mantel! Attach the garland to your mantel using temporary adhesive hooks.

Happy Decorating!

How To Choose An Electricty Company

Electricity comes from a monopoly provider…so it’s all the same, right?

No, not exactly.1024px-Question_Circle.svg.png

Shopping smart for electricity can save you a significant amount of money. But where do you begin? Check out our tips below!

1. Original providers (the companies your parents used) are not always the best. In fact, newer companies can offer the solid, uninterrupted service that you’re used to experiencing with an original provider, for typically a cheaper price!

2. Consider switching, or at least shopping, for a new company every year. The market is constantly changing, as are the rates, and you don’t want to miss a whole year of savings.

3. Before you shop, be familiar with what you already have. See when your contract expires, what your rate is (fixed or variable) and what you are being charged per kilowatt-hours. You don’t want to fall for a gimmick just to find out you were better off before!

4. Electricity is measured by kilowatt-hours, or kWh. Paying a difference of just 4 cents (8, instead of 12), can drop your monthly bill by at least $100.

5. Choose what kind of rate type you want. Variable rates may be cheaper, but could potentially spike depending on the market. A fixed rate will provide you with more consistency. Decide which is best for you before you choose an electric company.

6. Next, visit www.powertochoose.org. By simply entering your zip code, you will be able to view several offers specific to your area.

7. Before you decide on a company, do your research. Find out what other people are saying in the form of reviews. If you find a troubled history, think twice before choosing them. Don’t pay any mind to only a few poor ratings or reviews. No business is perfect, and there will always be at least a few disgruntled customers. However, if there are dozens or poor ratings or reviews, that could be a cause for concern. You can always consult the Better Business Bureau as well!

8. ALWAYS read the contract! Before signing anything, find out exactly what you’ll be signing your name to. Look for termination fees, contract term, rate plan, and per kWh rate. You don’t want to be blindsided down the road.

Shop & Save

We hope these tips help you shop smart, choose an electricity company and ultimately save money!

How Different Garage Doors Add Unique Curb Appeal

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Fri, Sep 16, 2016 @ 08:30 AM

Our corporate headquarters partnered with the team over at modernize.com for a guest blog on curb appeal! Modernize.com is a network of the most professional, trustworthy contractors across the country. They're homeowners, too, and their job is to provide quality educational content to inspire ideas to their readers.

A garage door makeover can revolutionize the impression your home makes on onlookers. Clean, geometric lines can make a plain house look modern. Wood panels will emphasize a home's classic appeal, and windows help break up the monotony of a wide garage door. The style, color, material, and hardware of your garage doors should never be an afterthought. Here's how your garage door selection adds to your home's first impression.

Carriage House Steel Garage Doors

The original function of carriage houses may be obsolete, but the style remains a sophisticated element of country homes. The Carriage House Collection is designed to deliver rustic authenticity, without sacrificing modern durability and convenience. You can customize the color, hardware, and windows to best complement your home’s architectural nuances and bring this old-timey look to life.

Modern Aluminum Garage Doors

For some, the garage does more than protect cars and equipment from the elements. It functions as a workspace. Aluminum and glass garage doors allow natural light to break through and illuminate the sacred space where you paint or perform vehicle repairs. Even if you don’t use this room as a project hub, you may simply enjoy the sleek lines of an aluminum garage door and the way it can completely modernize your home’s facade.

Thermacore® Insulated Steel Garage Doors

If you’re as much of a fan of efficiency as aesthetic value, you’ll appreciate both the look and performance of insulated steel. In order to keep your house efficient and allow your central heating and air system to do its job, you need to seal air leaks and stop heat transfer from the outdoors to the indoors and vice versa. Since garages are generally not climate-controlled, it’s important to insulate above and around the garage. Insulated steel protects your home from air flow and has a versatile look that meshes with almost any style of home.

Traditional Wood Garage Doors

These days, almost any garage door material can be fashioned to look like wood, from vinyl to fiberglass to steel. But for some homeowners, you just can’t beat the look of real, natural wood. While water damage is certainly a concern when it comes to using traditional wood in construction, these are sealed with a waterproof adhesive that allows you to enjoy your garage door, worry-free.

Windows Vs. No Windows On Your Garage Door

If you’ve never had a garage door with windows before, it may not have crossed your mind to add this feature. But windows here can be transformative, especially on a wide garage door that takes up a large section of your home’s facade. However, it’s important to go with your gut; depending on the style you’ve chosen, windows may actually dampen the effect of a beautiful design.

Playing With Paint

carriage style garage doorsYou may not think of a garage door as a place to play with color. But just like shutters and doors, a garage door can be a canvas that allows you to incorporate your unique tastes without having to make any architectural alterations.

Whether you’re going for luxurious, rustic, modern, or just uniquely “you,” a garage door can make or break your home from the very first glance.

5 Fall Maintenance Tasks

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Fri, Sep 09, 2016 @ 08:34 AM

Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer...pretty soon, the air will be crisper, the days will be shorter and the leaves will be brighter! Is your home ready for the seasonal transition? Today we're sharing 5 fall maintenace tasks to prepare your home! Take a look!
autumn-1042346_960_720.jpg

1. Caulk Windows

Caulking windows and door frames is one of the easiest, but most important, fall maintenance tasks. Proper sealing prevents heat from escaping and water from getting in.

2. Check Your Roof

Your roof is your first defense in protecting your home. Inspect for missing or lose shingles and repair where necessary. It’s best to proactively deal with repairs at the end of summer/beginning of fall than to discover a problem in the winter!

3. Reverse Ceiling Fan

Create an upward draft that redistributes warm air by changing the direction of your ceiling fan.

4. Prepare Porch

Clean deck and porch furniture and make any needed repairs. Cover outdoor furniture and barbecue grills and store in a protected area. In addition to furniture maintenance, it’s important to have spare blankets/sheets available for covering outdoor plants.

5. Peeling Paint

Inspect exterior walls for peeling paint. This is a sign that the existing paint can no longer protect the siding of the building. If you don’t repair the peeling paint, the siding will deteriorate and lead to expensive future repairs.

But fall maintenance tasks don't stop there! Check out our blog on how to prepare your garage for fall. For all of your garage door needs, remember Overhead Door first! Happy (almost) fall!

When Garage Door Replacement Is Inevitable...

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Fri, Sep 02, 2016 @ 11:49 AM

Garages are often the largest entrance to your home, one most people use everyday for years. Other than just wanting an upgrade, or just a new look for your home, how do you know when to replace your garage door? To ensure the safety of anyone who uses your door, it is important to recognize these critical signs that it may be necessary to replace your garage door.Garage_door_sliding_up.jpg

Garage Door Replacement Is Inevitable If...

1. Noise-If you hear any unfamiliar noises coming from your door as you open/close it, chances are, you should give our service team a call. The parts may just need to be oiled, but a noisy door is also a sign your garage door needs replacement.

2. Shaking Doors-If you fear an earthquake every time you open your garage door, it may be a sign that it should be replaced. A shaking garage door could mean that parts are loose and could result in a collapse...and even serious injury.

3. Crooked Door-If your door does not close straight, give us a call right away. A part has probably busted or come loose. The misalignment of your door is a sign that it is about to collapse.

4. Wires/Cords-There should not be any wires or cords hanging from any part of your garage door system. Exposed wires or cords can lead to bigger (more expensive) problems down the road, so give us a call before it's too late!

At Overhead Door, your safety and satisfaction are our priorities. If your garage door is displaying any of the above signs, give us a call for an entirely FREE estimate to see if you should replace your garage door. Or, if it's time for a new look, try out our visualization tool to give you an idea of what your new door will look like!
