Happy Garage Door Safety Month!

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Fri, Jun 24, 2016 @ 08:00 AM

June is Garage Door Safety Month, and seeing as how we’re the inventor of the upward-lifting garage door, we wanted to share some tips on maintaining the security and safety of your garage door. Did you know that more than 70% of homeowners enter and exit through the garage? The garage is the most-often used entry point of the home, opening and closing an average of four times a day. With that amount of foot traffic it’s important to keep track of your garage door activity and ensure you are maintaining a safe, functioning garage door.

Maintaining The Security Of Your Garage Door:

Managing the activity of your garage door is easy with OHD Anywhere™, with this application, you can control and monitor your garage door from anywhere with your Apple® iPhone or Android phone or device. You can check if your garage door is open, closed or if there is any change to the door position. You can instantly know that someone is operating your garage door and open the door for anyone such as delivery, repair person or friends without having to provide the access password to your garage.

OHD Anywhere™ uses a sensor attached to the garage door which is an important security advantage versus other systems that monitor the opener instead of the garage door position. You are alerted as to whether the door changes to the fully open or closed position even if the door is operated manually by disengaging the door from the opener. OHD Anywhere™ delivers convenience, control, peace-of-mind and safety all in the palm of your hand. Another great tip while on vacation, unplug the garage door opener unit, or use the vacation lock security switch on the wall console, which renders remotes unusable and is an optional accessory to most openers.

Garage Door Safety Tips:

1. Keeping your garage door in working order is also important to safety. Test the reversing mechanism by placing a 2-inch by 4-inch board in the door’s path. If the door does not reverse after contacting the object, call us for repair. If the opener has not been replaced since 1993, replace the garage door opener with a new one that has safety beams and auto-reverse as a standard feature.

Make sure the garage door opener control button is out of the reach of children and their small fingers and do not let them play with garage door remote controls.

3. Visually inspect the garage door for wear and tear. Pay particular attention to springs, cables, rollers and pulleys. Do not attempt to remove, adjust or repair these parts or anything attached to them. These parts are under hgh tension and should only be fixed by a trained garage door professional.

If you find there is an issue with your garage door or opener, make sure you contact us for service. We are garage door repair professionals and fully trained on how to properly (and safely) fix your garage doors.

How To Make Your Patio Summer-Ready

Posted by Overhead Door Permian Basin on Fri, Jun 17, 2016 @ 08:00 AM

The official start of summer is just a few days away! Is your patio summer-ready? If not, don’t worry! We're here to help. Find out how to make your patio summer-ready!

1. Outdoor Cooking

Who doesn’t love a summer BBQ? Make it happen by purchasing a grill for your patio. When shopping, consider who you’ll be cooking for; mainly just your family or do you like to cook for a crowd? Depending on your answer (and the size of your patio), choose a grill with the right amount of burners. In addition to a grill, think about purchasing a pizza oven…perfect for patio pizza parties!

2. Pick your shade

Shade is very important in the summertime. If your backyard patio is not already covered, consider building an add on to shade your deck. This can also help to add value to your home! If that’s not part of the plan, you can always purchase a patio table with an umbrella attachment. Pick a bright, summer color that matches the rest of your patio decor.

3. Furniture

Another patio must? Furniture. Consider purchasing a patio furniture set that is not only stylish and comfortable, but weatherproof too. Look for words like “fade resistant” and “durable” when you’re shopping. You should also invest in several extra chairs (or maybe even a hammock) for when you have extra guests.

4. Make A Statement

Find something that really makes your patio pop! This can be a fire pit, a fountain, a brightly colored flower pot, or maybe even a small fish pond! A statement piece like this helps add to the ambiance of your patio.

5. Light It Up
You don’t want to wind things down just because it gets dark! Don’t forget to choose lights for your patio. These can be anything from string lights, to classic or citronella candles, or even tiki torches. You don’t want it to be too bright, just enough to light things up a bit.

Your backyard patio is essentially another room to your house. Make the comfort of your home flow into your backyard patio. Hopefully the tips above do just the trick! Happy summer from Overhead Door!
